Tesla Wall Connector installation: prepare the scope

A car parked in a garage below a wall charger
The short answer

Tesla's Wall Connector is a fixed AC charging option. Its advertised maximum is 48 amps / 11.5 kW; Tesla's table pairs that output with a 60-amp breaker. The vehicle and assessed electrical supply can limit the usable rate. This is manufacturer context, not a circuit design for your property.

Choose the exact version and connector

The NACS Wall Connector and Universal Wall Connector are different purchasing choices. The Universal model adds an integrated J1772 arrangement. Tesla describes compatibility with most North American EVs; check the exact vehicle, inlet and product instructions rather than relying on an all-car claim.2 See connector and adapter guidance.

What the assessment should settle

  • Vehicle AC limit and the charging needed during your parking window.
  • Service capacity, suitable circuit setting and any approved load-management option.
  • Mounting, cable reach, wire route, indoor/outdoor exposure and property permission.
  • Permit, inspection and any utility work.
  • Equipment supply and product-specific commissioning.

Do not assume maximum output is necessary. Compare AC charging assumptions and ask the installer which option meets them. Capacity and breaker space are explained in the panel guide.

Tesla training and electrical authority are separate

Tesla has its own Certified Installer program.9 A manufacturer credential does not replace authorization to perform the electrical work in your jurisdiction. Ask about the exact license, relevant training and responsibility for setup; do not infer certification from a Tesla logo on an advertisement.

Commissioning belongs in the scope

Tesla's instructions describe setup through Tesla One, the correct circuit setting, connectivity and registration to the owner's account.11 Have the correct account email and network details available. Ask for a vehicle test and confirm that you control the charger after handover. Do not send account passwords in a referral form.

Use the right cost context

Tesla's home page estimates $750–$1,500 for installation, with equipment separately priced; long runs, trenching, panel work and other complex items are additional.2 That manufacturer estimate was checked October 13, 2026. Use the cost comparison for wider figures and the quote checklist for your actual scope.

For a hotel, workplace or shared site, confirm access, billing, account ownership and the warranty for that use; Tesla distinguishes home and commercial warranty terms.1
