Charging locations

Station and port counts come from the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC), from its September 1, 2026 snapshot. A location is a station site, and a port is one place a car can plug in. Public, private and unknown-access stations are counted separately.

Rebates and grants

We find programs through the AFDC's laws and incentives listings and through utility and state websites, then read each program's own terms. A program is shown as open only after we have read its current terms on the administrator's page, and the date we read them is shown with it. When an older listing disagrees with the administrator's current page, the current page wins, and a program that has ended is marked as historical.

AFDC record 5182, for example, still describes Georgia's charger tax credit, which Georgia's Department of Revenue says was repealed from January 1, 2026. Our Georgia page lists it as historical.

Cost figures in our guides come from named publishers, with the year, the region and what the figure includes. Our editorial policy explains how guides are written and dated.

The data page has the charging and program records as dated downloads, with their definitions.
